############# Introduction ############# This webpage includes information related to the D-Egg FAT procedure at Chiba University as of Autumn 2020. ============================================= Before Your First Shift - 初めてのシフト前 ============================================= Before you take your first shift, make sure you discuss with one of the shifting experts. If you do not understand something, please ask. シフト前にエクスパートと話してください。 分からなければ問い合わせください。 The main responsibilities of the shifter are to prepare the D-Eggs for testing and monitor the health of the testing. This includes mainly: * Unloading D-Eggs from shipping boxes * Loading D-Eggs into the freezer * Inspecting condition of laboratory * Enabling data acquisition (DAQ) system * Keeping DAQ running and monitoring problems * Adjusting freezer settings at required times. * Update the FAT Logbook regularly The DAQ tries to do everything it can automatically, which will hopefully make your life easier. While you are not expected to be monitoring the FAT system constantly every day, you **should** check Slack every hour during working hours. Also check at least once in the evening and once in the morning. This is very important to keep the FAT on-schedule. **Please see the next page for step-by-step schedule and overview of shifting. If something is not clear, please read the shifter section, then ask an expert.** =============== Logbook =============== The FAT Logbook is the tool we use to document all actions and problems during the shift. Please take some time to review the different forms located in the logbook (link below). If you have questions about the logbook, please ask before the start of your shift (during training). These forms should be used regularly and often, especially if any problems occur! More details about what to fill out and when in the next section. =================== During Your Shift =================== At the moment, we have decided to use a 1 Shifter system with a schedule of 8 days. This means that for one day two shifters will be present, providing an opportunity to discuss any problems or changes in schedule. Shifts start on Mondays and finish on the following Tuesday. A link to the schedules can be found below. During this time you should: * At the beginning, create a 'Start of Shift' Logbook post * Once in the morning, afternoon, and evening use the 'Shift Checklist' Logbook form. * If you observe anything unexpected or unusual (hardware or software related) create a 'New Post' in the Logbook. * Before finishing, make an 'End of Shift' Logbook post, including a summary. *If you cannot attent your shift (change of plans, illness, etc.), please notify an expert as soon as possible* ============== This Document ============== If during your shift you have feedback to improve this document, please share the information or do so. The document is located on the ppl server under: ``/home/HTML/only/fat_shift_manual/`` with a sphinx build setup under ``/home/chill/chiba_fat_shift/``. Modify the document in ``texts`` and then build with ``make html``. You may need super user privilages to execute this command. Ask an expert if you need help. Then copy the file: .. code-block:: cp -r /home/chill/chiba_fat_shift/build/html/ /home/HTML/only/ Rename the old version of ``fat_shift_manual`` to a new folder with the date you made the modification and then rename the folder you copied (html) to ``fat_shift_manual``. Navigate again to the Table of Contents in your browser to reload the new page, and check that your changes are there! =========== Resources =========== Experts List (contact via Slack): * Colton Hill * Max Meier * Ryo Nagai * Nobuhiro Shimizu Shifter Report Form: ``https://forms.gle/RHzfX3Va2LnyJ1xM8`` Shifter Results Spreadsheet: ``https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ES4tUlE4H7vYcykGFyMS7H9utoz7r1pydsUuGiCf5U8/edit?usp=sharing`` Logbook: ``http://www.ppl.phys.chiba-u.jp/logbook/`` STF Database: ``https://hercules.icecube.wisc.edu/prodcal/runset_summary?test_group=DEgg-FAT`` FATCAT: ``https://hercules.icecube.wisc.edu/upgrade/fatcat/devices`` Github:``https://github.com/icehap/degg_measurements`` Shifting Sign-up and Calendar: ``https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oiDvBAjzo55QzUCDi18edxUHuKOw8z2EqpsFh4qVHDg/edit#`` Also see the FAT Google Drive Folder
