1. Status of the MC production (Keiichi)
15 k events (E**-1, mu, tau, E**-2 mu, 5k each) have been generated
for the IC-23 strings configuration. The present processing time
appears a factor of two slower than the initial guess. Will be completed
by end of this week so that we hopefully can go to simulation with
the IC-80 strings configuration.
The generated data is currenly in the temporal directory in Madison.
Will be move to the datahouse directory soon.
2. Standard candle and baseline analysis (Aya) - her web page
The algorithm to determine baseline (pedestal) of ATWD and FADC
has been determined using the Standard Candle real data.
It is a combination of different methods - mostly averaging first two bins
or the iteration approach for ATWDs. The details can be found
in the Aya's web page above.
The revised portia has processed the data and the Npe information is now available
in form of the root tree for comparison with the simulation. Shigeru starts
the GDOM-Standard Candle/photonics simulation very soon for this purpose.
3. The IC-9 data analysis (Aya) - her web page
Processing the EHE data sample with the newly determined baseline
has been completed. Now the number of Events with Npes greater than 10**4
INCREASED by more than a factor of four (~2400 events).
The major reason is not the revision of the baseline estimation. Taking
the PMT gain from the calibration dataclass - It had been assumed to be
exact 1x10**7 in portia before. Now the root files are ready
to study the atmospheric muon background (see below).
4. Toward fitting the Atmospheric bundle parameterization (Aya) - model description-
The first step is to extract conversion factor from Npe to in-ice track energy
so that the data can be fitted to the model function in robust manner.
The first trial has been made and plotted here.
It looks working although uncontained events giving dim photons appear to affect
the mean value. Aya will revice the fitting algorythm.
5. Publication plan (Shigeru)
Publishing Two papers are being considered. One is to show our *expected* senisitvity
to EHE neutrinos by the full IceCube strings with detailed description
of the search algorythm ("Performance paper"). We will also write a letter
focusing on the results of the present IC-9 strings analysis. Both two papers
will be cross-referenced each other. Shigeru will start a rough drawing
of papers for brainstorming.
6. Reco status (Keiichi, Sean, David). - Sean's page -
Sean showed the resolution function for the MC data generated by the neutrino-generator.
The angular resolution was improved by the iteration between geometrical and energy
reconstruction in maximizing the likelihood. But the energy resolution has not been improved
so much, yet. Needs to implement DRESS and the detector saturation effects.
Also the results based on the photonics "lightsaber" table and those with Keiichi's function
look quite different each other - so unreasonable, suggesting that there may be some bugs.
Keiichi will look into it.
7. ICRC abstracts.
The authors are to circulate drafts of abstracts by end of this month. Then discuss them
in the next video conference.
